Margaret Ann Patterson (Dyer) was born 14 August 1858 in the township of Darlington in Ontario, Canada. She immigrated to the United States in 1880. John W. Patterson was born in June 1855 in Michigan. The two were married in 1884 in British Columbia, where they subsequently worked as missionaries for the Methodist Church in Spillumachine.
